👋 Hi, it has been a while since we sent out a newsletter. Hope you are all doing well.
What if an album, or a song, could be turned into a place? A visual environment you can explore? This is the question we’re trying to answer with Being Waves.
We’re just getting set up today for the test event in Iklectik, London, happening tomorrow April 4, 2023. We hope to have over 45 people attending a work-in-progress version of the experience to give us feedback on this new project which we’re set to launch later this year.
Being Waves is an Arts Council and National Lottery supported immersive experiment made in collaboration with London based band Kinkajous. A virtual experience where users can join either within VR or from the real world. Being Waves runs the entire duration of the Kinkajous album, unfolding in sync with the music so each of the nine tracks have a unique visual narrative.
With Being Waves we wanted to challenge our ideas about reality and perception, and experiment with music giving life to a space you can explore, so you can ‘wander within the music’.
With virtual concerts in Fortnite, VRChat nightclubs and DJ gigs in Engage_XR we think Being Waves is another unique way to experience music together.
We hope this project becomes a collective experience connecting virtual and real world audiences, and making a connection through a hybrid setup of virtual reality and projection installation.
